(Ed: I didn’t take any photos from these two days, so here are some random ones from before.)

Nov 20: Grandpa and Uncle Tierachai saw each other for the first time in ten years today.

I appear to be sick again. Stomach hurts. We leave for Beijing at 1:00am.

Nov 21: Feeling better, but the flight from Bangkok at 1:00am sucked.

Been at PEK for hours. Took subway into Beijing but we were both too tired and cold to do anything. Ended up coming back to the airport.

Had breakfast at Kenny Roger’s. It was kind of nie to have pseudo-American food.

Flight delayed from 15:30 to 17;30. We’ll have to catch another flight from SFO to PDX.

Sitting across from a guy who apparently came to China to pick up his wife’s son from another father. The kid misbehaves a little and the guy goes off on how in America (emphasis) you can’t do that. “In America, that would be a problem. That would be a big problem.”

Didn’t get to SFO until 12:40, and they changed our flight to PDX to leave at 1:15 so we couldn’t check in for it. Now we’re on standby for a 7:00PM flight, and only confirmed for a 10:00PM flight. This is ridiculous.

(Ed: And that’s it. I think we spent a total of 36 hours traveling to get back to Portland at 10:00 or 11:00PM. Unfortunately, by this point in the trip I was both tired and sick, so I didn’t document or photograph as much as I would have liked.)

Nov 17: Went to Grand palace. Also visited the zoo.

(Ed: I must have gotten bored because I sketched out several diagrams for “fluid-based” clocks.)

Nov 18: Went to Ayutthaya today.

Weather was incredibly nice. Not humid at all, and probably 70′ – 80′ F.

Hopefully got some good photos. this was part of a tour, and we took a cruise back.

Dad gave me instructions on rice w/ mango.

- Buy sticky rice. Soak for 4 hours.
- Put rice in bamboo weave steamer.
- Steam till done. add coconut milk w/ a little salt & sugar.
- Cut up mangos and serve.

Nov 19: Went to mall.

Nov 15: Got fish spa and foot massage at Pattaya Beach. Ate too much. Mango + sticky rice is delicious.

(Ed: Then I guess I started missing work, because I made a bunch of notes about improving efficiency and customer satisfaction.)

Nov 16: Went to tarot card reader today. Told me I could do anything I want in my career and I’ll receive guidance from a protector. Also said to be careful traveling at night in Dec, Jan, and Feb. Also said that I will have two wives. The first may die while traveling.

Found out dad’s REAL birthday today. He was born May 5, 1953. So my entire immediate family was born in May. It also makes him almost 2 years older. He hasn’t known his real birthday for 56 years.

Tomorrow we might visit the palace, and pick up the stuff from the tailor.

Had durian tonight, it tasted like a strong, raw onion. Not good.
